A Solar Centre for Windhoek
A resilient, climate-friendly energy future requires well-informed decisions, local expertise and accessible solutions in the field of renewable energy. The Solar Centre Windhoek offers independent advice, training and practical guidance to enable households and businesses to make well-informed decisions about solar energy, thereby supporting a locally driven transition to clean energy in line with global sustainability goals.

Self-sufficient energy generation is one of the most important aspects of a clean, sustainable future and a key factor in mitigating climate change. Whilst some countries already use energy from renewable sources, others are not yet making full use of their unique potential.
Namibia is a country that possesses an extremely abundant natural resource: the sun. With around 300 days of sunshine and 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, it is one of the countries with the greatest potential for solar power generation. However, solar energy does not yet play a major role in Namibia’s energy infrastructure, and there is a lack of awareness amongst the population about the benefits of solar energy.
This is where our project – A Solar Centre for Windhoek – comes in. We aim to educate the people of Windhoek, Namibia’s capital and largest city, about the benefits of solar energy and to promote the sustainable expansion of small-scale solar power plants in order to improve the economic and environmental situation of people in Windhoek and beyond.
The project is being implemented jointly by the State Office for Development Cooperation (LEZ Berlin) at the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises, BGZ Berliner Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit mbH and SolarZentrum Berlin.
